I come from a background in the legal field, where I became involved in my local legal professionals’ association, first as a member, then as a volunteer committee chair. After several years of serving at the committee level, I joined the executive board and eventually rose to the level of president. I served as president of Solano County’s association for two years, and later as president of Sacramento’s association for two years.

During my terms as president of these two volunteer-run nonprofit associations, the need to market and get the word out to the legal community at-large about our organization, cultivate members, conduct fundraising, and encourage support from law offices and industry vendors was a constant challenge. Most of the members running these organizations are all legal professionals with no background in business management or marketing. I offered the raw, creative talents I had for writing, graphic design, and desktop publishing to do as much promotion and marketing as possible, with some small success.
Fast forward to the year 2020, where I was now the president of the statewide corporation for legal support professionals throughout California (Legal Professionals, Incorporated, or “LPI”), and the world had come to a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With over 1,500 members, as well as one of the largest legal communities in the United States (if not the world) to serve and market to, the majority of which were now working remotely, it was critical to our mission and survival that I and my leadership team develop a plan to continue providing continuing education, networking, outreach, and professional development to California’s legal professionals. Whether by luck, hard work, or sheer determination (or all three), by May of 2022, LPI increased its educational offerings by over 70% and the number of attendees taking advantage of these offerings by over 47%. At a time when similar organizations were all but folding, LPI was educating a legal support professional, on average, every 4 days.
It was through this experience that I felt compelled to channel what I had learned, but more importantly, what I didn’t know, into resources that would help nonprofits like LPI better position themselves to establish a marketing presence and ensure their continued survival. In April 2022, I began an intense, comprehensive 18-week bootcamp course in digital marketing through the University of California at Davis, where I consistently delivered projects and assignments that demonstrated a solid understanding of digital marketing concepts and completed the course with a 101.06% average. I am ready to take what I have learned and offer solutions to small businesses and nonprofits who need their voices heard and their brands elevated.
